Togo Day 9 (11-13-11)
If don’t read all of this, at least skip to the BOLD section below.
Today, we were visiting a Church 3 hours north that JJ helps and coaches. The road had a ton of pot holes and we were bounced around like crazy, but it was a beautiful drive. It was very lush with palms, banana trees, mountains, etc… Great view!
When we pulled up to the church, they had just started and I heard...

Togo Day 2 (11-6-11)
Had a great second day. I was able to help lead worship today in the church in To go. I played backup for their worship leader, and was able to play/sing 4 songs as well. They were mesmerized. I guess they’ve never seen a guy play and sing…especially in their church. Either way, I really enjoyed it. Today was another first: As I was leading, I gave a brief introduction of each...
Togo Day 1 (11-5-11)
It’s only been one night and one full day now and I feel like it’s been such an experience already. Let’s start back at the airport upon my arrival. I had just finished my 4th plane ride and I was on hour 32 of my journey. Pretty Exhausted. Everything had gone great up till I was merely 4 feet from the door exiting the airport. The airport security in Lome (west africa)...

Stay
A nurse took the tired, anxious serviceman to the bedside. “Your son is here,” she said to the old man. She had to repeat the words several times before the patient’s eyes opened. Heavily sedated because of the pain of his heart attack, he dimly saw the young uniformed Marine standing outside the oxygen tent. He reached out his hand. The Marine wrapped his toughened fingers...

We do not have to wait for God to “come through” on His promises. His Word is good enough to praise Him even for his Promises. sidenote…. He will come through on His Promises!
Psalm 56:10 I praise God for what he has promised; Yes, I praise the Lord for what he has promised
Don’t wait on God to answer your requests to start praising Him. Rest in the consistency of your...

From Lion to housecat
To do them justice, the people who crucified Jesus did not do so because he was a bore. Quite the contrary; he was too dynamic to be safe. It has been left for later generations to muffle up that shattering personality and surround Him with an atmosphere of tedium. We have declawed the Lion of Judah and made Him a housecat for pale priests and pious old ladies. - Dorothy Sayers
Word
The Bible was unchained from the pulpit nearly five hundred years ago during an era of history called the Middle Ages. If you are relying on a preacher to be fed, I fear for you. Listening to a sermon is acquiring second-hand knowledge. It is learning based on someone else’s experiences. A sermon is no replacement for firsthand knowledge. I’d rather have people hear one word from...

But God is so rich in mercy, and He loved us so much, that even though we were dead because of our sins, He gave us life when He raised Christ from the dead. (It is only by God’s grace that you have been saved!)

Feelings VS Truth
Matthew 16:21-23 (HSB)
21 From then on Jesus began to point out to His disciples that He must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things from the elders, chief priests, and scribes, be killed, and be raised the third day. 22 Then Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him, “Oh no, Lord! This will never happen to You!” 23 But He turned and told Peter, ”Get behind Me, Satan! You...
Proud to be Weak!
Since when is being a weakling a good thing?
When we’re strong, and we know it, we tend not to rely on others. When we’re weak, and we know it, we’re looking for help. That’s where God wants us… realizing our weakness. It’s then, when we recognize our weakness and look to Him, that He WILL be strong IN and FOR us. So be proud to be weak (vs.9), and tell...

Get Away
Even in the chaos of Jesus successful ministry, he modeled how we are to get away and spend time with Him.
Mark 1:25 Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, He got up, went out, and made His way to a deserted place. And He was praying there.

Embracing rules and religion before embracing the Savior = misplaced priorities Acts 10:9-21
If the World had a facebook account, I hope I would “un-friend” it.
James 4:4 You adulterers! Don’t you realize that friendship with the world makes you an enemy of God? I say it again: If you want to be a friend of the world, you make yourself an enemy of God.
Where would someone ever get the idea that money...
When I typed that question out, it felt like a ridiculous question… however, what is the motive behind our giving? Do we give out of obligation? Do we give because of tradition? Do we give because we think if we do, that God will bless us? I’ve had so many conversations with people that, in a round about way, said the latter. If I’m honest, I’ve been there too. I...

Bargaining with God (not sponsored by WJXR)
Is it wrong to bargain with God?
I was at a Bible study last night, and a good friend of mine reminded me of a Christmas story of a little boy bargaining with God.
A small boy was writing a letter to God about the Christmas presents he badly wanted. “I’ve been good for six months now.” he wrote. But after a moment’s reflection he crossed out “six months” and...
As pertaining to the modern Christian…. Where is transformation as all this time marches onward?
We all, with unveiled faces, are reflecting the glory of the Lord and are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory; this is from the Lord who is the Spirit. 2 Cor. 3:18

Be not afraid when you and all around you are...
God is our refuge and strength, a helper who is always found in times of trouble. Therefore we will not be afraid, though the earth trembles and the mountains topple into the depths of the seas, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with its turmoil. The LORD of Hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our stronghold.
Psalm 46

Can you think of anything or anyone that acts like something or someone it’s not?
Let’s see… a mime, trick or treaters, credit card adds, weight loss commercials, Nigerian Prince e-mails, pro-wrestlers, vampires (no I didn’t watch Eclipse), and the list goes on. But you shouldn’t have to see “Christians” in that list.

Direction
Previously I thought that many people I spoke with, struggled with direction because I usually am surrounded with a younger generation. I’ve come to realize that most, if not all of us (regardless of age) struggle with direction… at least at various times in our life. God’s word is pretty clear on direction.
Don’t make rash decisions ...
